Based upon his recent book "Chicago to Appomattox," military officer and Grundy County native Jason Baker will tell the story of men from Grundy, LaSalle, and Will Counties who joined a Civil War regiment in Chicago, and served for almost four years before witnessing Robert E. Lee surrender to U.S. Grant to end the war. The program will given overview of their exploits, how they fit into the more widely known stories of the war, and provide first-hand accounts from the soldiers' writings. The author's main goal is to show how regular, everyday men from our little corner of Illinois interacted with some of the most notable names of the war, and took part in some of the most important and influential fighting.
Space is limited to 30 participants. If you are interested in attending, please contact the Museum at 815.942.4880 or grundyhistory@att.net
