World Wildlife Fund's EARTH Hour
Grundy County Celebrate World Wildlife Fund’s EARTH Hour March 26th, 2022
The Environmental Office of the Grundy County Land Use Department is asking that Grundy County residents consider participation in the WWF’s EARTH Hour on March 26, 2022 from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM by turning off all lights in your home or business.
By participating you will joining millions across the world switch off their lights for one hour to show that they care about the future of our brilliant planet. The World Wildlife Fund page has many details and ideas to help make this event not only a fun event but to bring a positive change through the acknowledgement of climate change and nature loss.
To celebrate this event, please do the following:
- Switch off all lights in businesses and homes and plan a fun event with the family.
- Encourage others by adding this event to group discussions or businesses through social media
- Organize groups to promote and increase participation in this event.
Over the last sixteen years, WWF’s EARTH Hour’s unique display of darkness has become a global phenomenon with hundreds of millions of individuals coming together each year.
How do you start?
Go to earthhour.org to explore the type of events you as an individual, family, a group, or a business in celebrating this event.
Some activities such as picnics or dinners in the dark with family and friends, recycling activities, watching climate change-related films or documentaries are some of the ways that you can enjoy this time. Schools may decide to have an assembly to kick off this event on the Friday prior to encourage the students to take this activity home to their families.
By this one hour participation, it not only is a help to our planet, but will prompt us as stewards to begin protecting the earth and applying the 4Rs of recycling, reducing, reusing, and respecting the earth.
